The “Trilateral Strategy Group" met in Washington PDF Print E-mail

ImageThe third “Trilateral Strategy Group” with the cooperation of German Marshall Fund, TUSIAD (Turkish Association of Industrialists and Businessmen), Koc Holdings and Sweden Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held in Washington on 3-5 October, 2010 in order to discuss issues relevant to Europe, USA and Turkey.

AK Party Central Executive Committee Member, Deputy Chairman of External Affairs and Cankiri MP Suat KINIKLIOGLU participated this third meeting under the title of “Global Challenges and Trilateral Perspectives” where high level politicians, bureaucrats and academicians from Turkey, Europe and USA attended.

ImageKINIKLIOGLU made a speech in Iran and Middle East panel of the meeting emphasizing the mediatory and solution provider role of Turkey. He said Turkey as a significant actor of the Middle East assumed the necessary constructive role required for an agreement between Iran and international community in order to overcome the Iran – U.S. crisis.

KINIKLIOGLU added that “Turkey has the same objective with the U.S. about Iran; both of the countries do not wish Iran to become a nuclear power. However, they have a difference of opinion about the method.” In this context, KINIKLIOGLU drew attention to the importance of diplomacy emphasizing the Teheran declaration as a step ahead to constitute trust between the parties and to initiate negotiations between the two countries. He also said that Turkey has now become more recognized by its allies and friends.
