AK Party External Affairs Deputy Chairman Suat KINIKLIOGLU attended a seminar hosted by the Global Strategy Forum on February 8, 2010 held at the House of Lords of British Parliament under the title “Turkey’s Role in an Emerging Network World”.
In his speech at the seminar, KINIKLIOGLU touched upon the issues of EU, Cyprus, Turkey-Britain relations and said the following about Turkey’s EU process:
"We definitely would like to be a part of a Union with self-confidence, willing to become a significant actor and increasing its economic welfare. However, a Union exhibiting Islamofobic, introvert and racist approaches from time to time creates disappointment for Turkey. The Turkish society has established its own internal dynamics. For this reason, we do not support “EU accession at any cost”.
KINIKLIOGLU also said that the negotiation process with EU must certainly be continued with but the insincerity about Cyprus cannot be neglected. He also mentioned the existing approach in Turkey that questions the sincerity of European Union.
