AK Party Deputy Chairman of External Affairs Suat KINIKLIOGLU participated in the program and said that the new American administration clearly and explicitly implied its desire to restore Turkish – American relations and added that: “The issue of 1915 is quite complicated. Mr. Obama had written and oral commitments that have never been made by any other US President before. Especially the answer given to the question asked in the press meeting with our President, where he did not use the word ‘genocide’ and not to use the same word in his speech at the Parliament showed that he would not use the word in his April 24 statement as well. This is an advantage from our side.” KINIKLIOGLU also underlined the message of Obama supporting Turkey’s EU accession and made the following evaluation: “Actually, he responded to what has been said by President Sarkozy a bit.’ The United States of America is not a member of European Union but is the ally of both Turkey and the Union; therefore there is a word to say for us, too'. In general, very positive. Frankly, I think this speech provides us with the signals of improved Turkish – American relations in the forthcoming period.” |
