KINIKLIOGLU: "We are working round-the-clock against HR 252 in Washington" PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 03 March 2010

ImageTogether with a team of seven MPs including AK Party External Affairs Commission Chairman Murat Mercan, AK Party External Affairs Deputy Chairman and Turkish-American Friendship Group Chairman Suat KINIKLIOGLU has been involved in intensive lobbying activities in the United States for the rejection of Armenian draft by the US Congress.

KINIKLIOGLU reckons that the draft will not be included in the agenda of the US Senate this year as well and explained "In 2007, the draft became null and void since it did not reach the House after the Foreign Affairs Committee. This year we are more eager. We will try to beat this in the Commission. If we cannot handle it in the Committee, then we will strive for not letting it to pass to the House. I do not think that it will reach the House."

In his initiatives in Washington on behalf of the Congress together with the Turkish-American Friendship Group, KINIKLIOGLU explained the members of the Congress the possible damage of the resolution on Turkish-American relations and the sensitivity of the Turkish public opinion about the issue.  "Especially at the time of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, we believe this is quite a bad and unfortunate timing. We are working round-the-clock against HR 252 in Washington.
