AK Party Deputy Chairman of External Affairs, Chairman of the Turkish-American Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Suat KINIKLIOGLU was hosted by Channel D News prior to the voting of the resolution on the recognition of 1915 incidents as “genocide” to take place at Foreign Affairs Committee of US House of Representatives.
Answering Mehmet Ali BIRAND’s questions, KINIKLIOGLU evaluated the last minute explanation of Obama administration as a delayed call elaborating “A last minute call was made as a result of the suggestions of our President of Republic and Prime Minister. What is important for us is the lack of any attempt against the resolution draft by the Administration in the last week. Frankly, this is quite meaningful for us and is an element to determine the course of Turkish-American relations in the coming months”. KINIKLIOGLU added that;
“Before we came here, everyone told that the draft would pass from the Committee smoothly. However, as a result of the explanations from Ankara and the meetings we had in Washington – in which the government, opposition, civil society organizations, Turkish Embassy in Washington and Turkish community in the US had a major role – the atmosphere here has changed. We believe there will be a vote will be close."
