The resolution recognizing the 1915 incidents as Armenian “genocide” was approved in the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs with 23 votes against 22 after a voting of nearly one and a half hours.
Commenting on the result of the voting at CNN Turk’s News Bulletin, Suat KINIKLIOGLU drew attention to the efforts to gain time by prolonging the voting process and explained “Unfortunately, by the help of maximum powers vested on the Chairman of the Committee in the American system, prolongation of the process was possible and the Committee members willing to vote for the approval of the resolution were able to gather in the meantime. It is an unpleasant situation but the number of votes from the voting gave a good lesson to the Armenian community and American Committee members acting as the spokesmen of the diaspora here. Such resolutions are no more neglected, Turkey will not remain silent against the unilateral approach concerning the 1915 incidents and such sensitive issues will not be permitted to reach this point anymore”. |
